## Running API Workspace

You can setup API workspace by downloading your project\_\<apiprojectname>.zip and follow the steps below:

1. Unzip the files
2. Launch the folder in terminal (Mac/Linux) or command line (Windows)
3. Execute shell or powershell scripts against the offlinedeploy
4. Docker containers for the API workspace will be setup - [Docker DESKTOP](https://www.docker.com/products/docker-desktop/) must be installed before running this setup.

# Data Provider API Design

Conektto is one of very few platforms that enables product managers to connect their data source and build APIs easily without knowledge of complex JSON or YAML.

Conektto supports most of the commonly used relational database like SQL Server, Postgres and MySQL.

With Conektto's design studio, you can securely connect to your database server hosted on cloud or a VM with external IP, scan schema, order and sequence, make your entities available as drag/drop into the design studio.

Before you design, make sure to:

1. Define the purpose and scope of the API: Determine the specific data or functionality that the API will provide and how it will be used.
2. Identify the data sources: Determine where the data will come from and how it will be collected. Identify host credentials and/or SSL certificates for connecting to the database.
3. Define the API structure and endpoint: Decide on the structure of the API, including the endpoint and the data fields that will be provided.
4. Validate and define business logic: relationships/joins and filter conditions
5. Publish the API documentation: Publish the API design that generates Open API spec, Java Spring boot code, .NET EF code, Apgiee endpoint, API Test workspace, and the ability to push to your GitHub workspace.
6. Test the API: Test the API to ensure that it functions as expected and that the data is accurate.
7. Release the API to the public or specific users: Make the API available for use by the intended audience.

### Connect Database

Select Database Server Type, and provide host credentials for the desired database under design. You may also choose to connect to your database through SSL. You are required to upload your SSL certificates if you choose to do so. Click "Test" to test the database connection. ### Examine your data tables, columns, and all entities

### Create custom parameters

If your entities are direct attributes, you can drag and drop the enities in the contract designer and start renaming. ### Create your API contracts - Rest endpoints, Operations, and payload structure

:white\_check\_mark:**Create Resource & add Path**

Resource is the primary data representation. Having a consistent and robust REST resource naming strategy – will prove one of the best design decisions for consumability, maintenanbility, avoid API sprawl and API lineage.

A **resource can be a singleton or a collection**.

URI = resources + Path

For example, “`accounts`” is a collection resource and “`account`” is a singleton resource (in a customer domain).

Similarly, a singleton resource “`department`” inside the **path** resource “`departments`” can be identified as follows: “`/accounts/{accountId}/departments/{departmentId}`“.\
\
REST APIs use [Uniform Resource Identifiers](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uniform_Resource_Identifier) (URIs) to address resources. Product Managers and API designers should consider creating URIs that convey a REST API’s resource model to the end users or consumers of the API. When resources are named well, it makes the API intuitive, aligns with product strategy and easy to use.&#x20;

URI should refer to a resource that is a thing (noun) instead of referring to an action (verb) because nouns have properties that verbs do not have – similarly, resources have attributes. Some examples of a resource are consumers of your API, users of your product, user accounts or account groups, etc.\
\
:warning:Prevent using upper case, underscores, actual CRUD verb, query component, etc.

#### HTTP Method / Operations

REST APIs enable product managers and API teams to build web applications having all possible CRUD (create, retrieve, update, delete) operations.

[REST guidelines](https://restfulapi.net/rest-architectural-constraints/) suggest using a specific HTTP method on a particular type of call made to the server (though technically it is possible to violate this guideline, yet it is highly discouraged).

To simplify it:

GET - **to retrieve** data and not for making changes to state

POST - **to create new subordinate resources**, e.g., a file is subordinate to a directory containing it or a row is subordinate to a database table.

PUT - **to update an existing resource (if the resource does not exist, then API may decide to create a new resource or not)**.

DELETE - **to delete a resource** or data from the collections

### Creating your first collection

After logging in to our platform, you can see the collections in the dashboard pane.

### Creating new request to collection

To create a new request, click the file icon, which adds the request to the collection.

* Another way to add a new request is by using the **+** button shown in the tab.

* Once you click it, the request will get added to the panel and the tab and you can perform your operations.

* You can toggle between the requests that are present in the tab.
* You can search for requests using the **search** bar.
* You can copy and duplicate the request you would like to have by clicking the **save** button. Once you get the pop-up modal, there will be a checkbox with the message "Save as duplicate "or "Save a copy."

* Once you have checked it, you need to click the folder/collection from the structure where you would like to have your duplicate request. Both the request and the newly created duplicate request will have the same content.

### Organizing the collection

* If you would like to add any sub-folder(s) or sub-collection(s) to the main folder/collection, click the folder icon, which shows the **Add folder** tooltip.

### Import/Export the collection

You can export the collection that is created on our platform using the **Export** option in the menu.&#x20;

## Log in to Conektto

1. Go to [www.conektto.io](http://www.conektto.io). The Conektto page displays.
2. Select **Sign up/Login**.The Conektto **Login/Sign up** page displays.
3. Select **Continue with Linkedin**. The **Linkedin Login** page displays.
4. Enter Email ID and Password, and select **Sign in**. The **Conektto Authenticator** page displays.
5. Select **Allow**. The Conektto API project page displays that allows you to create an API project.

1. Follow instructions from 1 to 6 in the **Log in to Conektto** section.
2. Select **Test Studio**. The **Test API Project** page displays.

4. Enter the **API Name** and select **Upload** to upload the specification file.
5. Select the **Connect Database** tab.
6. Select SQL Server as the **Server Type**.
7. Enter **34.82.24.189** in the **Host** field and **1433** in **Port** field.
8. Enter Username, Password, and Database.

   **Note**: Select **Over SSL** checkbox to upload **Key**, **Certificate**, and **CA Certificate.**
9. Select the **Invite Collaborators** tab to enter name of people in the **Invite users to collaborate**.

### Connect Database

Select Database Server Type, and provide host credentials for the desired database under test. You may also choose to connect to your database through SSL. Publish action prepares your API contracts, schema and entities selected for validation against OpenAPI standards as well as mapping complex business logic.

# Execute API Test

Conektto's Autonomous API Test Studio uses NLP technology to analyze and create test harness for executing all your tests. Before you continue on this section, make sure you read the previous section.

## Setting up Conektto API Test Workspace

After successfully publishing your API test project, you can download the API workspace from Conektto's Dashboard as illustrated below.

## API Test workspace

Conektto's API Test Workspace works locally on your desktop or on a VM or cloud instance. The test workspace is composed of set of docker containers&#x20;

ReactUI - To interact and perform test execution

NodeJS - API backend to interact with ReactUI and backedn MongoDB

MongoDB - Backend database to store test workspace data

FlaskAPI - For data retrieval from MongoDB to enable test data insertion and to persist test results

Mock services - To run mock runners for the API under test

Test Runner engine - To run functional API tests and analyze results

Grafana UI - Pre-built Grafana Dashboard to visualize performance test results

InfluxDB - Time series database for persisting performance test data

## Download and Install API Test Workspace

Downloadable API Workspace is named with "Proj" prefix followed by name of your API project: as in "Proj\_Demo\_DocAPItest.zip"

Unzip the contents and open the contained folder in Terminal or Command line

### Test Data

Conektto generates all Test Data for your entire database despite your API under test is only related to few entities. The test data is generated with unique patent pending algorithm that ensure entity relationship, order, sequence and overall integrity of the database and ready to be inserted into your database.

### Performance Tests

:information\_source:Conektto auto generates performance tests along with the test data for respective volume that are executed locally on the docker containers. Select the type of the performance tests from the drop down:

:heavy\_check\_mark:Baseline: Basic benchmark tests with low volume, shorter duration and slower ramp-up

:heavy\_check\_mark:Load - Lower volume, shorter duration but faster ramp-up threads

:heavy\_check\_mark:Stress - Higher volume and longer duration of threads

:heavy\_check\_mark:Endurance - Lower volume and longer duration of threads

### Grafana visualization

Conektto's performance test executions are persisted in InfluxDB container and can be visualized for relevant performance metrics in the Grafana plug-in.

# Getting set up

:white\_check\_mark:Setting up of Conektto from building your APIs done in few minutes. From the Login / Sign-up link, you can use any of the 3 social authentication tools like LinkedIn, GitHub or Google to sign in so you do not have to use and remember yet another user id and password.

:warning:Continue with SSO (Single Sign On) is enabled only for enterprise users. If you are not sure about it, contact your IT helpdesk to check if your enterpise is partnered with Conektto for SSO based login.
